Facades

In the work "Facades” explores the buildings around “Neumarkt” in Dresden. At first glance, most of the buildings appear historical, but upon closer inspection one encounters inconsistencies. This is because Dresden was heavily destroyed during World War II, along with its famous Baroque cityscape. After the war, an extensive debate about the reconstruction of Dresden began. Today, significant structures like the Frauenkirche have been historically accurately rebuilt, standing alongside modern glass facades. However, there are also buildings that appear historical but are modern constructions behind the facade.

In detailed photographs, the traces of history and the various approaches to reconstruction are revealed. The work reflects on materials, structures, and the development of the cityscape. The photographs are intended to encourage viewers to examine a city more closely and think about what might be hidden behind facades.
