Eine Nation am Trauern

The documentary photography work focuses on the mourning process in the United Kingdom during the week following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. My photographs gently follow the traces and details of the mourning process for the long-reigning monarch, whose legacy has undoubtedly left a lasting impression on numerous generations.

During this time, I traveled through the cities of Clacton-on-Sea, Ely, Cambridge, and London with Green Garden and the "Flower Memorial" there. Each image tells a unique story of individual grief and collective respect as the nation united in an expression of mourning. The documentary photography work serves not only as a time capsule but also as a compassionate reflection on the significance of a monarchy for the collective consciousness of a nation.

These photographs are not only visual testimonies of the farewell to a significant personality but also a reflection of the cultural and emotional impact that the loss of a symbolic figure has on people. The images illustrate the diversity of mourning rituals, whether in quiet moments of reflection in front of royal residences or in public gatherings where people express their grief in unity.
